Signs It’s Time For A New Mattress

Did you know the average mattress lasts between 7 to 10 years? However, there are some tell-tale signs that indicate its time to replace your old mattress, even before you hit that 7 year mark. If you notice any of the following, it might be time to say goodbye to your old mattress.

1. Sagging

Sagging may occur when the coils in your mattress weaken or the memory foam loses its shape. The average person sweats up to a pint per night, which will break down the mattress faster. If you get up in the morning and your body leaves an indention, or your mattress doesn’t return to its flat appearance, it may be time to start shopping.

2. Noise

If you hear squeaking sounds, it most likely means your coils are starting to age. Over time the coils grow less supportive, and that screeching metal sound is telling you its time to replace your mattress!

3. Smell

As time goes by, mildew, mold, and fungi will build up in your mattress. This will also be expedited if you live in a humid climate. If you start to notice an odor as you lay down for bed, definitely consider getting rid of your mattress.

4. Allergies

As mold, mildew, and dust acquire on your mattress, your allergies may be intensified. If you wake up every morning with watery eyes, runny nose, or headache, allergens in the mattress could be the culprit. If you have sensitive allergies, definitely consider latex when shopping for a new mattress! Our Scandinavian mattresses have a latex/copper-infused gel memory foam that will prevent the build up of allergens!

5. Pain

If you wake up with soreness or pain, it could mean your mattress is not as comfortable or supportive as it used to be. Pain in your shoulders and hips mean the mattress isn’t conforming to you and relieving pressure on those areas, while lower back pain means you aren’t being supported properly.

6. Discomfort

Lastly, discomfort is another sign that your mattress is finished. If you toss and turn all night and can’t get comfortable, it could be time to say farewell to the old mattress.

Often times, a mattress protector can slow these symptoms such as sagging, smell, or allergies. Definitely consider investing when you shop for your new mattress to make it last the full 7 to 10 years! However, even with a mattress protector, it’s important for both your sleep and your health to periodically replace your old mattress. You spend almost 26 years of your life sleeping, so make sure your mattress is as comfortable and supportive as possible!
